  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
for those who like to hand feed forget that try feeding with your mouth now that would be crazy and video tape it for here!!

ALso do any of you have larger more aggressive serious species? like green moray? the ones who have huge gapes that your faces could fit inside? I work at big al's and we had a massive 1 with the head the size of a shepherd almost and a body as thick as your big strong legs. Id love to watch u guys give it a kisss

^ there used to be a member here that owned a 6' Green moray... Not sure if he still it though...

no, but I had a huge Green suck in my shrimp while I was fishing in the Keys as a kid and I set the hook like a retard and after fighting with it for 10 minutes, I realized he wasn't letting go of the reef and I had to break the line. We came across local Florida-water species here and there when we snorkeled or fishing, but even as a kid I was always smart enough to respect their territory.

Call me crazy, but I like having FINGERS......it almost feels like they're a "part of me" and after awhile they really "grow on you".

OOOOH, I got it I got it - FRONTOSAS......water parameters permitting, a nocturnal cichlid kept best only in species-only tanks, but I bet it would work perfectly with nocturnal, self-kept Morays and be able to not only ward off aggression from the Eels, but wouldn't bother them either since they don't even remotely resemble a rival Cichlid. As a matter of fact, I think ALL Eels are nocturnal, so you could mix-and-match any Eels of similar size with Morays and Frontosas

well, for freshwater morays at least.

I've been thinking about suitable tankmates for these eels (not that i'm purposely looking for any) and it got me thinking, my tank currently houses:

4X G.Polyuranadon
1X Yellow Lab Cichlid
4X Flying Fox
4X Silver Flying Foxes
6 Lonesome neon tetras (used to have about 80)

The problem i find is that obviously small fish will get eaten, that i always knew would happen, but it seems once these eels get going, they really start cleaning house fast of any small fish that fit in their mouths, since it got to a point where whoever the culprit is, was eating more than his fair share every night considering i went from about 80 to 6 in the matter of 1 month maybe less...I have also been started seeing scars on some of the flying foxes, both silver and regular, which means at night these eels are also attacking their tank mates... even my yellow lab i've seen get tagged once or twice during feeding, although atm, the yellow lab doesn't seem to be fazed by them, hard to say when they get larger how much damage they can inflict...

Then there is also the problem with tank mates eating all the food before the eels get a chance to grab it... like my flying foxes are constantly going after any and all food that hits the water surface and all the movement almost confuses the eels not knowing where to strike.... Even my single yellow lab can be an absolute P.I.T.A at feeding time, coz even when full, he still likes stealing food and just chewing on it and spitting it out...

My old tesselatta was peaceful with pretty much everything, I fed once a week until he didnt want any more food. My yellow devil - Fimbriated moray on the other hand, had to be housed alone because he would kill anything that moved, even his 3 cleaner shrimps. I think it really just comes down to the temperment of the individual moray on which or if any tankmates will be tolerated.
