Tankmates with JARDINI (READ!!!)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alright, I've had a Jardini for over 3 months now in a 29 gallon tank. He's been with 7 clown loaches and been okay, but reading the past few pages, I'm aware that he's going to have some of his own meals potentially. My question is, how long do they take to grow past 18 inches? I have a 130 gallon tank that is empty and he'll eventually grow in.

GOOD INFO...I'M CURRENTLY HOLDING ON TO A FEW JARS. FOR A FRIEND...BABIES...3 IN MAX...ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW LONG BEFORE I NEED TO GET THEM OUT OF MY TANK. CURRENTLY THET (6) ARE HELD IN A 10GAL TANK. AS MINE, ONE OF THE 6 REACHES 4-5 IN I'LL TRANSFER HIM/HER TO A LARGER TANK.

BUT UNTIL THEN, WILL THEY SHRED EACH OTHER UP?

I think I've stated this already..I have kept Jardinis with asians and silvers, all grown up guys, with no problem at all....would we have Prozac laced tap water?

ive kept 2 jardini's, one at work (aquatic store) and he had many additions!
he never fought with any of them. 6-7 plecs, 2 humbug talking cats, polypterus ornatapinnis. never had a prob with him........he was 20".

mine at home lives with a cobalt lobster, plec 2 poly's, 2 black ghost knives.
he's 15"!

still everybodies experiences with them will differ....both tanks in my case weren't crowded and very sparse, if he had friends who swum im the same zone as him it would prob be a different story!

I have a 13" jardini. It lives in a 2000l tank with a paroon shark, delhezi, tiger shovelnose, lmb, lima, black ghost and there is no fighting what so ever. No nipping nothing. And the jardini is the biggest off them. It is very friendly actually. When i nock on the glass it comes over to me and followes my finger when i do silent tapping on the glass.

how bout a pleco? thanks so much

I bought my jardini a little bit more than a week ago. In my tank I have a neosilirus ater and a sailfin gibbicep.

Within a few days, my jardini was slightly territorial and my black ater's tail was nipped. Then few days later, they seem to be fine swimming next to each other.

After a few days later, I found my ater lying dead beside the driftwood.

It was already too late when I read this post... :(

Some say the Jardini is like a Pit Bull that one day, for no apparently reason, goes on the attack. Others remark that the Jardini is like a cat, which ignores the hamsters until the hamsters go missing? My 18” Jardini has been living in a community tank with a fat 8” Sunfish for the past year. One day the Jardini, just after a full meal, grabbed the Sunfish by the tail and swam with it in its mouth for hours. The Jardini did not try to eat the Sunfish but would not let go. When the Sunfish stopped breathing the Jardini released it where it sank to the bottom, quite dead.

There is a pet psychologist in our area and I am thinking of asking her to spend some time with my Jardini to see she can improve the fish’s behavior. Has anyone had experience with a pet psychologist?

hey I put a 2 ft jardini in with a larger clown knife and the knife was the boss of the jardini, until one night...
All it took was one night for the jardini to become boss and tear the knife up so badly that it actually had bones hanging out! Cool thing is that the knife healed up almost completely. I traded the jardini in to a lfs that put it on display and in a tank full of other big nasties it did exactly the same thing. It seemed to only pick out an individual fish to massacre and left everything else alone. By the time a week had gone by all the fish were crowded in either side of the tank and the jardini had the other 7.5 ft of the 10 ft tank to itself in the middle! It didnt stay in that tank either for very long.
