They will work except the tetras. I tried congo tetras once, and my bichirs went after them. Even though they couldn't eat them whole, they will grab them, kill them, then rip em' apart.

Hmmm - at $13 per congo over here it could be an expensive way of feeding them, not to mention a bit messy

For midwater schooling fish that really is the better option, unless you scap that and just go with a pair of Thysochromis or some other african riverine cichlid
