Ok I have 2 Senegal birchirs both about 6 or 7 inches long. I also have 2 Spotted Climbing Perch about 3.5 inch and 3 inches plus 2 Clown loaches, one being 4 inches and the other 3 inches.

I had Dwarf Gouramis in the tank with them but all 4 ended up dying. Not eaten and no signs of attacks. I think it was parasites and the medication was to late. None of the other fish show any signs of disease.

I was wondering what else you guys would put with them. I've heard Congo tetras but I don't want them to end up as expensive snacks.

What schooling type fish would work with these guys? Preferably somewhat active and top swimmers.
What do you guys have with yours?

The tank is heavily planted, 75 gallons ( I know I'll need to upgrade ).

edit: I have a list that BeBlondie posted but its just something to look off of and obviously doesn't name every possible tankmate.

Not sure about the size that these lil buggers get too but the red hook dollars would probly work with them they look pretty awsome and I think a few would be alright in the 75

I haven't tried it yet but I've always wanted to try some larger species of rainbows like boesmanis. They should get big enough to not get eaten by senegals. I think congo tetras are good candidates also. I would look for something similar in size as your leopard ctenopoma.

I have silver dollars with mine and they are very skittish fish. They're cool but you can't even watch them from upclose without scaring them. I would imagine redhooks to be similar to them. Plus they probably end up eating all of your plants.

Yeah I figure any of the dollars are a no go because of the plants. I actually saw some good sized Rainbows at the store last week. They had them listed as Australian, aren't most of them lol, and they were a good 4 inches already. My main problem with them is they like hard water and my water is very soft.

My pH is 6.8 no injection and my GH is like 2 and my KH is 3.

I like the Congos, just not sure I'd want to pay that much for them. The Rainbows are only $2 a piece.

edit: Actually with my fert dosing my GH is more like 8, what is considered medium - hard? I might could pull off Rainbows.

$2 is a great price for rainbows. I think over here their $5-$10 a piece. Saw some full grown boesmanis and they were $40 :eek3: . I'm not a rainbow expert but I would imagine they should be able to adjust to your water like most fish can.

yup rainbows would work as a senegal tankmate, i had some before until my endli grew big enough to pick them one by one
