So i have a 150 gallon that looks plain now that i took my oscar out.. in the tank now is a red devil a small freddy and a green terror.. Do you guys think i can add any fish?? if i can what can i add that can hold his own against a red devil???? Any suggestions????

You could put plenty more fish in, assuming you filtration is up to par of course. As for suggestions I am an oscar guy myself so I'll let someone else throw out some ideas lol

well i like oscars but had to take mine out today almost got murderes by the red devil

I would not add oscars or other more peaceful fish...try with other robust aggressive species, perhaps something smaller, like salvini

With red devils it's hard to tell what aggressive cichlid will work until you try. I would stay away from JD and GT and oscars for sure, go with the more aggressive cichlids.

pretty much NOTHING unless whatever you ad is 3-4x bigger than the RD or way smaller and faster, like cons or HRP...and even thats not a guarantee. As suggested a Salvini maybe but when they make it past 5 or so inches, they are competition for food and the RD will eliminate them mercilessly.Oh, and Red Isletas cant hang at all. They are one of the most passive Amph. species IME.

Youll pretty much find that there are less than 2% of the members on MFK that can keep an RD with anything. Get rid of him if you would like to have something more than an RD/Con tank.

From here on out, Id suggest using the search on here and google to research ANY fish before you buy it and make sure you know what youre getting yourself into. This is like the 3rd thread where you have a certain fish and know NOTHING about it or its basic needs/compatibility.

This is not in the general sense a community fish, they have a reputation for not playing well with others. Out of all the Midas complex species I’ve kept and I have not kept them all these are the most aggressive in my experience. Some fish grow into their aggression RD’s have it from the start. I was growing a small Labiatus out in with my GT for a month while moving some fish around and this little guy all of 2.5” would flair and pump and threaten my 7” GT, it had no fear. VRWC is correct, without a very large tank and very robust tank mates the likelihood of successfully housing an RD with other fish is very slim at best. This fact combined with the longer this fish is housed alone will make it’s acceptance of anything added to the tank highly unlikely.

You can try Silver dollars go to Petsmart they have them right now for a buck, get 7 and see what happens. Also try putting some type of cover in a corner so it can retreat behind it when it feels necessary. I have a big fake rock ornament in a corner with a fake vine suction cupped to the side of the tank above it for additional cover, my RD likes to go behind it once in a while, gives them a sense of security and calms them down a little when they gat too rambunctious. Every once in a while they go thru what I call a “Rage” where they kite and flair and attack things in the tank for what would appear to be no reason to us, I suspect some movement in the room was not to their liking, when they get into this state and other fish are around bad things happen. So there it is you’re probably stuck with a solo RD or start over I guess.
