In the history of MFK, is there is a single thread of a tank falling though a floor?

Matt

Hello; I have not read of a tank actually falling thru a floor in the 2+ years I have been following this forum. I have seen threads where damage from heavy tanks was posted. So if actually falling thru the floor is the measure, then I do not know of it happening.

My floor joists are only 2x6"s. I had a 70G setup that caused noticeable sagging of the floor, so I moved the tank into the garage (concrete slab). It is a very stubby tank, (28"L x 24"W x 25" H) so the weight was really concentrated in one area.

Having said that, I also had a 270G (6x3x2) setup on a second story with floor joists that were 2x10"s and I didn't have any problems at all.

It really all depends on the construction of your floors.

thanks for everones views im scared to see sagging ive caused with my 135 and 80 in my gouse thats ontop of a garage hahaha buying a level this weekendbto see what i got my self into, i just swear ive loaded much more weight on roofs when re doing them, and they are build weaker then floors i would belive......

I asked this question four and a half years ago. It hasn't happened yet, and if it did it would be bound to happen to someone on this forum!

Dan likes to laugh about this when he comes over and sees the tanks I have on my floors...

Yep. :nilly:

This guy lives in a little house perched on the side of a cliff. It is filled practically wall-to-wall with monster tanks. If ever a floor was to collapse it would be his, but it still hasn't happened....

Well 1st off jus gonna throw this out there is... Through... Not threw... Lol but it depends on the buil of the house there is a thread somewhere on here where a guy put steel I beems through a load bearing wall in his house... The load bearimg wall is met to deel with that kind of pressure so instead of the tank being on the floor essentiall all its weight was on the wall.... Do some searching you will find it... Prolly like 300 replys or somethin to read through tho.... It was a progression thread... Nice tank in the end...
