Tanks on second story?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
unless its an ld house u should be good up to bout 200gal but it really depends on how many square feet it covers
I hve a 135 second floor n i got a 40gal over like 2 square feet but its also a new house
if your really scared find the load bearing wall(it will run thru evry stiry of the building) just ask for ble prints of your building or ask the landlord

I wouldnt put a big tank like that on anything less then a 2x10 @ 16" o/c floor. In my area they are trying to cut cost and build with 2x8 floors, which flex when someone heavy walks on them...

Alot of apts are concrete floors these days. I have a 120, 110, 75, 30, and 10 on the second floor. And soon a 24 nano cube.

I think these buildings were built in the late 70's at the earliest, or else they were built in the 80's. I can't remember which. I can tell you that the walls and floors seem really solid. No thumping, no vibrations in my tanks, the people below us say that they never hear us, even when I play my electric guitar. But could that just mean good sound insulation? Also, I think that the apartment below us has the same floor plan. I think I should be safe if I place one more 50 gallon tank near the outside wall, at a corner. Corners are stronger right? Or am I mistaken?

i own another apartment which was built in the 70's and its even more solid than the latest place which is brand new, it would of easily held a 300gal or over with no worries.
I dont think you will have any issues with a 50gal

I have a 220 in a second floor apt. I built a base out of 4x4's and plywood to spread out the weight.

A 50 gallon is nothing. It will only weigh 500-600 Lbs. with a stand.
