Where could you get a tank larger than 300 gallons with a stand and filter to go with it? Zoo Diver where did you get your tanks?

tenecor & glass cages seem to be pretty good companies

How big (dims) and what material? ZooDiver works for various public aquariums, so he's dealing in levels that most private enthusiasts can only fantasize about. Cohl and I bought our tanks through Tenecor - beautiful work, but absolute crap for customer service.

If I were 15 and on a tight budget, but wanted a big tank, I'd buy a fiberglass tub from DTFiberglass, Red Ewald, or Dolphin Fiberglass (all three are good, just depends on where you are - shipping can be $$$), and install an acrylic window. Or just get a stock tub (like a horse trough).

so a horse trough would work? but how would I rig a filter to something like that. I considered a kiddie pool. Would that work?

I'd go with fiberglass as well for what you are trying to do. Red Ewald tanks I've used a LOT in the past.

For small pools like that, you can usually cut a bulkhead into the side and run your plumbing that way. The other way to do it is just run pipe up over the side, but sometimes it's hard to get the pumps to prime when doing it that way.

I don't think I could afford a fiber glass tub. I might be able to get a large wadding pool or a plastic tub from my dad's work. Could I cut a hole in the side of it as a filter intake and seal the gaps with silicon

For someone with such a small budget, you have big plans.

Perhaps you might consider saving up? I'm not trying to flame, just trying to keep the fish's interests at heart.

I'd concur about the savings - sharks are a BIG investment. Several of us here easily have tens of thousands of dollars invested into our hobby. Not saying a small shark tank is that much, but it is always going to cost more than you expect.

That said, I remember myself at 15, and well... you're going to find a way to do it anyways. So again, I would find one of those big Rubbermaid tubs (300 gallons), instead of a kiddie pool for the tank. And for filtration, I'd save up and buy a nice ETSS protein skimmer with a capable pump. In your budgeting, assume you're going to spend twice what you want to spend. ALSO, don't buy the shark until everything is ready and cycled.

Honestly the cheapest way to go, is buy the 8' blue poly tub that tractor supply sells. Its about 700 gal and $299. They work good and I just set mine back up and put a window in. I put up a couple pics tonight.
