Tanks

There is no way that skimmer is going to be big enough.

There are tons of options out there, but I know several people who are using aquac's EV series on their shark tanks, I have used these skimmers and they are great for the price.

Once again that is one persons opinion, I am sure you will get others but that skimmer will not be big enough.

You also might want to consider putting this pond in your basement or something, because unless you have a very large room you are probably not going to be able to fit this into your room. There is also the issue then with moisture levels in your room. All sorts of things to take into consideration.
 
You could use a sump set up like that. The downside to sumps on bigger tanks is that you'll be fighting water level all the time. Big tanks mean more evaporation. If you just used the tank to draw and return to, you won't fight evaportation as much. If you run the sump you'll feel the effect of every little swing and run the risk of sucking air into the pump or loosing circulation all together.

I'd skip the skimmer altogether at first. You don't NEED one per say. It's just a form of mechanical filtration that you can get done other ways.
 
bad news guys. my mom said yes and then said something like ," Oh, wait, it's going to be in a plastic container? That's animal cruelty and you know that I hate that. No you are not doing that." It makes me mad because now I have to wait two years to get one.:irked: But she doesn't know all that much about saltwater fish anyway. I mean, isn't it obvious that you could do something like this. :duh: But I do respect her decision.
 
The other thing I was going to mention is that if you are worried about tank weight on the second floor, the water alone will outweigh the tank.

And for what it's worth, acrylic tanks are a form of plastic tank. And I raise fish in plastic bins (poly tanks) all the time. They are easy to clean and take care of, not to mention cheap to get ahold of.
 
Plastic tubs are not animal cruelty. Where are the glass sides in Tide pools, rivers, small pods, etc. Fish naturally only recieve light from above so the thought that enclosures without windows are cruel is homocentric (Not ***, human centered). The glass is for the aquarist not the fish!
 
I tried to explain that to her but she will not listen. She said it would make it feel boxed in and nervous to be in a black walled tub:screwy:. I told her it is more stress full for one in a glass tank but she will not listen:irked:. she said that if I save up she will let me buy a nano aquarium like the Red Sea Max
 
Dude I'm 15....sucks having this hobby and realize parents aren't gonna support you...lol I put in about $2,300 of my personal money at where I work, how ever my parents also chip in a lot....electricity bills and at least put in a $1000 throughout the year.

I have a 72 gallon and the first day I got it I was like what shark should i put in here, but realized....i'm gonna need a 500 gallon tank.
