I really liked my tea-colored water. I thought it did wonders for my angelfish tank, with all the plants/roots/wood. It looked really nice. And only n00bs thought the water was dirty, and who cares what they think.

Clean tannin stained water can look GREAT... I would drum up some pics of tank examples, but I don't wanna. Maybe someone else will.

i know fish come from some pretty brown tannin stained water and it does not effect water quality but I prefer to see my fish clearly from all sides of the tank.
I know some tanks look fine with tannin but mine is not that style

Just because it's the "cool" thing on mfk to have crystal clear water, doesn't mean your fish like it. That's what I'm saying. You put driftwood in teh tank, you gets teh tannins. Just like you eat a lot of cheezburger, you get fats. Comes with the territory guys... if you want no tannins, check out some of that awesome fake driftwood at www.designsbynature.net

I completely agree with you but i have pleccos that need wood thats why i have persisted otherwise it would have been binned long ago.

:grinno: :grinno: :grinno:
So you have plecos, that like tannin stained water, that munch on your wood releasing more tannins, and you hate tannins in your water?

Maybe time to get different fish.

I know how it is, don't worry, just messing with you. ;)

No the pleccos eat the cellulose in the wood they require it for digestion. They are indifferent to the tannin levels.

Actually, tannins soften and acidify water, and most plecos prefer soft, acidic water. Also, tannins contain various chemicals that are natural anti fungal agents.

i had a similar situation. we had two pieces of driftwood for our 120g tank and the tannins were as if they were here to stay. I got a large feeding trough and filled it with water and let it soak for nearly 2-3 weeks. We changed the water daily and pressure washed it daily as well. When I put the driftwood in the tank i did AT LEAST a 1/3 water change every day and also used carbon media. After a couple weeks of this the tannins were gone and my water was crystal clear. Be patient with it!
