Thanks. Light is submerged at fish level now unlike in pics. Does a nan tan or is it more of a viewing light?

Will, havent you got a RTG? In which case a tanning light wouldnt do any good IMO?

Apparently it does tan the fish. People in asia have been using it for years. The arcadia light will do pretty much the same thing.

Here is my 22" Violet Fusion, I want to get him really red. Been using a Nan light for 8 hours a day and havent seen any difference. Will this tan ok or should I maybe invest in a acardia arowana light?

Also with other fish in tank I cant really tan for excessive periods.

Thanks in advance

i bought a 14" super red that was not showing any red at all other than a little in the back fins & looked washed out as it was being kept under a bog slandered t8 light

i bought an arcadia arowana lamp & have to say am very impressed, have been using it 8hrs a day for a month the fish has now red pectoral fins red coming on the gill plates & some red showing on the scales

beware of one thing tho some fish do not like the uv light, had a red tailed giant gourami come out with cysts from uv exposure & now have 2 of my geophagus showing same signs

now have the light off for the geos sake so wouldt recommend using one unless you have an arowana tank as other species dont get on with it quite as well

no problems with my rays tho

good topic here.. i ask this qustion few days ago and no one answer my thread. anyhow have any of you used the arcadia arowana light and compare with the nan light which light is better.. i know that when i had my nan light it give off so intense red for my aro and parrots compared with regular t5 color max by coralife.. since my aro is so big now i only found one day that the glass tube that holds the light in have been broke by my aro so now i'm wondering if i should get a arcadia light or should i replace my nan light.

Think i'll sell the nan and buy aro light then. Have to see how my geo's get on with it though. Cheers all

Why not just get the arcadia light tubes and still use the nan light set, that way u don't have to buy the whole arcadia aro light set. U could also opt for the arcadia D3 tube (for reptiles) if they don't sell the aro light tube separately....

I notice the sand bed is white thus the fish is blending into it's enviroment. if it's black, I'm sure the colour will look deeper.

I only use normal household cool white FL for my red com. Lights are left on 24/7 and colours are developing nicely.

This is the thread I just start to showcase my coming soon 6 years old VFSR.

Invest in a acardia tanning light put it in 6ins below water level and tilt it 45degrees towards the top so as to prevent DE .start of with 8hrs tanning slowly increase to 12hrs. arro may lose a bit of appeite no worries once uce to it will eat like no tomorrow....my 2 cents

just some quick notes about any UV omitting lights/tubes. its harmful to your eyes. please use them with caution and do not look straight into them. secondly, the output also decreases with time so they must be replaced regularly.

tanning works to some extents, but there are other factors like genes, diet, water conditions etc........ results vary.
