I was wondering how long anyone has had their tank water tinted yellow because of driftwood? I have 3 medium- Large pieces that have been in there since the start of the tank. I added 2 small pieces as well. Did the best I could on soaking and boiling the driftwood but the water remains yellowish after almost 3 months. I am consistently doing 40-50 percent water changes and even did around 65 percent. The tank is a 240 gallon so the tank slowly turns yellow 3 days after the water change. Any thoughts of knowledge are always appreciated. Thanks

The tannin will continue to leach out until the wood is clean of them. Some folks have had luck running carbon in their filtration to help get rid of the tannin.

Sometimes the tannins come out quick and you dont notice it much other times they are in there forever. The last tank i did with a few large pieces of wood in i ran matrix carbon in for a few weeks and the tannins never seem to be bad.... and I am talking piece 4 ft long, i dont normally run carbon in my planted tanks. Just if i add drift wood or on new tanks for the first month. But thats just me.

I have heard of adding small amounts of carbon. When looking deeper into it i found these AquaClear Quick Filter Powerhead Attachments that connected to the bottom of the powerhead and claimed to have carbon in them and can be used as another source of filtration (very small percentage of the filtration I know). I was wondering have you ever heard of these or used one and have any recommendations?

I swear by seachems products if i cant use there carbon or matrix or purigen or whatever i wont use it.

So you are just saying put a bit of it in one of the media trays in my filter. No need for any fancy little quick attachments?

Ya i just threw a bag of it in the sump of canister (whatever the tank had) and let it work. The more you added the quicker u will see results but seachems carbon matrix works great so you dont need to go crazy unless you like going crazy with filtration like i do.

Correct. You will likely get a higher quality product that's more cost effective and works better that way. Carbon is pretty much exhausted in a week, so smaller amounts frequently changed are better than a lot at once.
