tap water filter?

The setup for a 5 micron is cheap, for a 1 micron or a .5 micron with carbon included in the cartridge will run you around $50. That is for the canister, plumbing, and cartridge. They are cheap. I use to run the .5 micron with carbon, but it was too expensive long term for drinking water. You do not need a pump for filters with that size micron rating, however when you start lining up numerous micron filters, even 30 micron, you need a pump or a lot of patience.

is there a water filter that i can connect to my tap that mechanically and chemically purify water.

im not talking about RO units, i just want the nastys removed :)

Sounds like you want a "Kold Ster-il" water filtration system. They cost more than a lot of RO units however.
