Looking at getting a tarantula. It will go in a 28 gallon bowfront with a screen top that has a heat lamp that will keep the tank like in the upper 70s. I am in Colorado, so it is pretty dry. I can keep the tank sprayed, but the humidity goes away quickly. I want something that grows big, has nice colors, and is more active. I am looking at getting one at a local store, so probably something more common. ...... any input/suggestions?

Rose hair tarantulas are the most common and are relatively handleable. They like it dry too. Chaco Golden Knee would be another option.

Thank you for the reply.

Rose hair are easiest

Was gonna say a pink toe, but they need it pretty moist. Good looking and they get to a decent size though.

I ended up getting a pink toe. I have deep Ecco substrate and I will keep the tank misted. Do they try and escape a lot? I have the tank pretty well covered, but there are some really small gaps that concern me.

Wow, that went quick! They are ground-bound IIRC so they won't try to escape as much as arboreal species, but still I'd try to cover those holes.

I will try as good as I can. My wife is mad that I got it, and she said that if it got out, she would stay in a hotel until I found it ......
