so my mature male OBT(usambara baboon) and mature female OBT have been drumming back and fourth since sunday, and the male has been "wandering" so i decided to introduce them last night.
the female was immediately receptive, drumming and following the male around her deli cup, she did bolt out of her webbing after he snuck up on her which scared the @$#% out of him but he found her again and did the deed. i was able to see a successful insertion. unfortunately the pics of the insertion are absolutely horrible..but you get the idea.

i really wish the pics would have come out better..but i guess they'll do for now. and yes, the male lived.

Well don't the females usually kill the males after breeding?

I don't think all the time but I'm no T' expert what so ever. I guess if the female is well fed it shouldnt' be a problem. And I think males can fall into the prey category when it comes to all spider species. Black Widows being the famous ones at that.

with tarantulas..a female who is not receptive to the male will probably eat him 90% of the time. a female who is receptive will allow the male to mate and 50% or less of the time the male will become a snack..especially if the male is left in the enclosure with her. tarantulas are not really known for killing the male after breeding..but of course it does happen. the female here was very gentle with him and slowly went back to her webbing when it was all said and done.

true spiders on the other hand..almost always kill the male after mating.

here's a video of a female who was not in the mood..skip the video to 1:15
