Tarantula Keepers?

Great looking T's! Really wish we had some here in Iceland, sadly they're illegal.

Nice T's! I'm really interested in one, but I Don't know if I would keep up with maintenance so I've shied away so far.

Ha! If you can take care of fish, a tarantula will be like a pet rock. If you go with any of the typical "beginner" species (Brachypelma sp., Aphonopelma sp., Grammostola sp., Euathalus sp., Eupalaestrus sp., etc.), the only thing you have to do for maintenance is to provide fresh water and offer a cricket once every week or two. They can go many months without eating, as Grammostola spp. often will.

Unlike most other pets, they don't need heaters (temps between 70-80 are fine), they don't need frequent feedings (feeding multiple times per week can be harmful), they don't need a big spacious enclosure (even a 6" tarantula can live happily in a 10 gallon tank), and they don't need you to clean their enclosure, aside from maybe eventually changing substrate. I can't imagine an easier pet. :D

Oh, and thanks. lol :)

My Brachypelma albopilosum who I've named "Linda," molted sometime around July 1st-3rd (I noticed it on the 3rd but she was already finished molting by then), but her exuvia wasn't intact enough to determine sex, so "she" may still be a "he." She grew quite a bit though. She's now just a hair over 3.5".

She is no longer a very handleable T, despite the reputation that this species has. She has never given a threat pose and only flicked hairs once in the time I've had her, but she is extremely skittish, and she's easily as fast as a Poecilotheria when she get's spooked.

Nice. I had one when I was a kid. I inherited it when the original owners allowed it to be injured and lose a leg :(
I had it for a few years after that before she died she molted and her missing leg had grown back but really skinny. Fascinating pet. I would like to get another one but my wife said she would squash it like, well like a bug! :(

This girl is the one I really have fun with. Amazingly laid back. I've named her "Marilyn." The worst she ever does is lift her rump and try to look big and intimidating if she doesn't want to be bothered... It's adorable. :D

Ahh that sucks... From what I've read though, that is how they usually regrow limbs. The first molt after the loss will produce a small/skinny limb, and then after the next molt it's good as new.

That doesn't sound too bad! Thing is though, I would need heating, and I hate the noise crickets make..
