So I just went to the fish store and saw two tarpon for sale labled as Asian tarpon. My guess is they are Indo pacific tarpon, I got bothe of them for 15$ each. They look terrible:( they were in a fish store that sells mostly small fish and when I asked the owner he said he feeds all his fish pellets. I had to buy them. Tarpon are such a beautiful fish and I couldn’t watch these little guys stay there and suffer. Anyways I have a 500g pond that they can go in, and I want to know if they will get too big and how quickly they will grow. Hopefully they can keep up with the growth of their peacock bass tank mates otherwise I’ll have to figure something out.

Since I got them, I’ve been doing a little research on other people who have had tarpon in their aquariums. One of the main examples of an Indo pacific tarpon online is a YouTube channel called the fish guys.
No hate towards them, they seem cool, but they are a perfect example of not believing everything that you see on the internet. They claim to have an Indo tarpon (don’t get me wrong, they completely could have one), however, it is three feet long. In freshwater. Now I know that is not a lot of evidence, but if you go to their YouTube channel, posts from years ago show it growing at the same pace as their rtc?!?! Not only that, it grew to two feet long faster than their rtc! My conclusion is that because they live in an area where Atlantic tarpon are illegal to keep, they are trying to pawn off an Atlantic tarpon they took from the wild as a store bought Indo.

i have not kept tarpon nor seen them displayed in person, but i know indo does max out around 3 ft and they can be fully freshwater, theyre not easy to keep, pics would help

👍 I’ll send a pic but beware, they look terrible as I still haven’t gotten them to take shrimp fully, they only ate once

Any tips on how to get them to eat? I’m trying to use tinfoil barbs to get them to learn, and am trying shrimp bloodworms and silversides, but they just won’t take it :(
