tarpon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i saw 5 of them in a lfs and they did not sell. Then they reduced the price and someone snagged them up before me:{They were about 9- 10 inches.

They have one at Shedd Aquarium. Should not be sold to hobbiests. The chances of a hobbiest that can house tarpon(or other large fish, such as Arapaima Gigas) walking into a lfs that has them in stock is pretty slim. I would rather have a few hobbiests, who own 10,000 gal + tanks, have a hard time finding big fish than have tons of fish dying with unprepared keepers.

LFS near me had about 6 shovelnose sturgeon for under $30 each. Not a giant sturgeon, but I still doubt they are going to end up with people who have big enough aquariums to house them.

keeping a tarpon would require more space than keeping a Great Barracuda.

a tank the size of your living room might work....

The Indo pacific tarpon (the one seen in the hobby) only gets 2feet, or less.

snook tarpon gets max 16 inchs(from fishing book)

I just know about the fish people go fishing for here in FL. hell, we got a town just north of Tampa called Tarpon Springs.

those fish get big, and have teeth.

I have 8 tarpon (2 in a 650gal, 6 in a 4-5 acre pond). They're a very active species that don't bother anything in the tank too big for them to swallow. When they're fed, they hit like lightning. Here's an older pic (They're NOT easy to photograph).
