Tattoo people!!! Ideas

Do you have lots of ink already? I don't like the idea of names on the bicep. It make me think of all the people you see around that thought they were though when they were young and just have 1 tattoo on their bicep and it looks so out of place. Maybe go long ways down the back of forearm or tricep. But if you have another kid then you may have to explain why their name doesn't match the others. I have my wife's name tattooed right across the top of my hand. BIG too. And on my heart. I've been with her 19 years so I'm screwed anyway if we ever end it. I have both of my kids done at separate times in a banner with script writing their names. The banners are under skulls on different part of my body the skull symbolizes each of them. The skull itself is the same design but the boy has a baseball hat kicked sideways. And the girl has eyelashes with a lock of hair with a pink bow in it. As far as the fish goes I don't know I'm in the same predicament as far as placement. I'm leaning toward my whole back right now.

I think I'm just gonna go with the daughters name for now. Just gotta figure out if I wanna do full name which will be pretty long or just first name with a nice design around it.

I have the same tattoo on each of my shoulders and 2 on my back. Plan on doing sleeves if I never find a teaching job in the crappy economy. Long story I won't get into. We plan on having another kid so I would save the other arm for then

If the name can play into the ehoulder tattoo the bicep can work. Tattoos are best when appropriately sized and dont rooster block you from the next piece.

Like everyone said the wife's name is never a smart idea. I've been around tattoo shops for around eight years and that's always the worst idea. If your thinking about sleeves get your daughters name with something incorporated. Like dude said he had done with her name in a banner so it's not just a giant name chillin. The inside of the bicep would be and easy spot also. It's not to painful either. If you stick to black and gray you can have an awesome sleeve of fish and what not done in black and gray if you plan it ahead of time and have your artist in on the idea. Don't just go in and say I want this one thing. Baby steps. Do the outline then the black and shading and so on.

Tattoos for people are a lot like starting to keep fish. You usually have no idea what you're doing in the beginning... Your eye isn't trained to recognize really good tattoo work from mediocre tattoo work. That 10 gallon with the colored gravel and neon plants was so cool when you got it. Then you started going online and realizing there was a lot more out there.
You're lucky you live in the NY area, there are a lot of good tattoo artists. I would start looking at tons of different portfolios. Here are a few solid shops on the west coast just to get started:

http://www.spidermurphys.com/

Find artists with work that stack up to that quality. Obviously there is something to be said about personal taste, but just start developing an eye for it.

If you are 100% certain your going to keep adding I'd go on the shoulder in the the center of the current piece and havebthe srtist come up with something to fill it out. The downside is that it will look hokey until the 3rd or 4th piece is added but your taking care of a dead space which may be awkward to fill later on while keeping the bulk of the arm open for other pieces.
