tattooed fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't like them at all. They are very attractive, but it would be like getting my cat tatooed to make it more attractive. I can't imagine the poor things would survive long after coming home. I prefer purchasing regular fish who look like they should. I told the lady at the lfs that I wasn't happy with it when she told me they were tatooed. She said that she didn't like it either, but they came in a shipment of regular mollies. She also said that they are advising people the marks may fade in time, and the fish will be weak. In her defense, she did tell me after explaining (before I complained) that she wouldn't recommend buying them.

Just got back from the LFS, they got two with'love' on the side. Not much love for the fish!

Went back to the lfs yesterday, and she had gotten rid of the tatooed fish. She gave them to someone who was interested in them. I guess she called her distributor and told them never to send this kind again.

one of the main reasons i quit working at one of my lfs. they kept ordering the blasted dyed parrots. they're even worse. people by them small for their "10g box of death" and don't realize that if they actually do live long enough they get pretty big and look rediculous once their bodies start to digest the dye.

Tropical Fish Distributors, a vendor on this site, sells injected, dipped, and tattooed fish comprised of multiple species. I emailed them once to say I was disappointed in their choice to stock these fish and unfortunately wouldn't be buying any lifestock from them, and got a really nasty email back saying they wouldn't sell to me anyway.

You can see their stock list here: www.tfdfish.com

Page 3 has most of the fish of interest.

so sad my lfs has them but the guy there doesn't like it ethir........so sad this hobby has become.:irked:

the store i worked at gets their freshwater fish from tfd. i felt the same way but never really bothered talking to the distributor cuz they're pretty arogant about a lot of things
