I noticed this about three or four weeks ago. Initially I figured it may be an injury from netting. Fish had been previously quarantined for ich, treated with methylene blue.

This small sunfish has no loss of appetite! Seems to be in good spirits, perhaps a little twitchy but excited to come to the surface for food. Swimming upright. Eating cichlid flakes.

I had never heard of fish TB (tuberculosis) until tonight, any thoughts?

Nitrate: 40 ppm
Nitrite: 0
GH: 150
KH: 50
pH: 7.8

Fish has been returned to quarantine tank. Currently treating with Melafix, along with stress coat and using prime with water changes.

Thanks!

I should add/stress that this fish really appears healthy, excellent coloring (best I've seen it, really).

Also, there are a couple of small bullhead in the aquarium as well. I know that the spines can be toxic, but I doubt that a poke could cause the sunfish's spine to shift like that.

I could really use some help here, folks.

I don't suspect TB here. You'd want to look for granulomas post mortem to confirm one case would have a TB. Provided this fish is healthy, no reason why you have to worry about TB.

My only guess is injuries. Birth defect is another. TB certainly would not count. You suspected yourself manhandling could have caused this bent spine which does happen if you are not careful.
