I've never run into TDS issues with my rays.. now I have lost multiple spiney eels to TDS issues... when my other tanks where fine.. the only variable that I could test was TDS that was different. same substrate, same water source, same water conditiner, water permateres ideal ( 0-0-20ppm/less) but TDS over 400 and they would literally keel over and "choke" took me monthes to figure it out. they where in a community tank and I can admit I would let the water changes slide abit ( but i was doing them per TDS reading as nitrates always where acceptable) the only other difference is it was a planted tank. But I had spiney eels in other tanks that where just fine ( infact one of them is likely the largest or close to it of her species in captivity "raised") So def agree as a general rule TDS are nowhere near as important as other numbers.. but imo still important numbers to know.
