My son is a year old... But since he was a 3 months old I always put him in front of the tank an he loves it... He try's to smack the fish now though so I don't let him get too close I made my tank 3.5 ft high off ground so he can't reach hehe

My 3 year old nephew used to hit the 29 I had next to my bed then he stopped putting his hands near it when on of my firemouths bit his finger.

One great thing that happened to me was when my uncle gave me a 10 gallon kit for christmas and said its yours kid, do what you want with it. I dont live with him andMy dad doesnt really like aquariums, but him giving me that empty tank and helping me while setting up my first tank is why i love this hobby so much today. Its amazing what 5 peices of glass and some water can do.

I have 3 kids. My 2 sons really could care less about my fish. They pay attention once in awhile and notice changes in stock and tank arrangements and help me out with swapping fish or water changes from time to time but my daughter is the one who loves our aquariums. She is actually the one who got me back into the hobby after 15 years away from it. She and I have built a better bond and it's been started because of our mutual love for the aquarium hobby.

Just dont do the mistake i did and smother your kid with fish to much when theyre little cause when theyre 8-9 theyre gonna be so sick if fish and fish stores. Truuuuust me. Let them ask questions and make it fun. But if your doing fish store to fish store to fish store hopping make sure you fit toys r us in there somewhere. My 8 old use to looove fish but now she only tolerates them. I force her so much to pick out fish and drag her to stores. My toddlers though loooove fish. They pick out their own fish and love naming them. Baby steps.

+1
No smothering! , let the curiosity come in , and reduce the number of tanks

My son loves the fish tanks, especially helping maintain them. My daughter loves the fish as well, but not quite to the same extent. That may change as she gets older, she is only 16 months old (Clifford is three and has been helping me since he turned two).

My 10 month old son loves our fish tanks, sometimes we can spend almost half an hour watching the main tank, which is saying a lot for a 10 month old. I always take him with me when going to my LFS and we've been out as a family to more aquariums then I have ever been to before (pretty awesome actually).

Hopefully he will continue to enjoy them as he grows older. As long as he shows interest I'll be there to teach him.
