Oh, BTW.. Teacup rays have much smaller mouths and will have a hard time eating the 'typical' ray foods that most books/websites inform to feed, such as Squid/Krill/etc..

Also, your Apollo sharks and other tankmates are probably stressing the ray out.. They are delicate fish and can't just be thrown into any 'community' tank, contrary to what your LFS says.. Could be another of other problems too such as substrate, bio-load, etc..

If I were you I would try to take it back to the LFS and get some sort of credit before it perishes.. Purchasing a stingray before doing the research always leads to bad results!

so I am taking your advice. there will be a substrate change on half of my 125 gal. tank to accomodate the ray and a bunch of fish are going to be brought to the fish store and a friend. the end result of this project will be:

125 gal. tank (fluval xp5 filter) planted tank with plenty of room for the ray to move.
3 quad dats
3 hujeta gars
1 retic. stingray
1 cichla mono

oh and I did do research, just none of the advice given to me or read by me was as helpful as what you have told me. I never buy a fish without doing research and when I ask a question on here, it is after I've looked stuff up online or talked to my lfs. i usually know the answers before I ask but I like to see what other people have experienced just to make sure... i dont like looking ignorant but I guess I walked into that one.

what a difference so far... the ray is in the 50 gal. tank and is much more active than when he was in the 125. he is up at he surface and all over the glass. he's pretty much acting like he did while at the fish store. he has yet to eat though but hopefully that changes tomorrow morning.

well, how weird is it that the ray wont eat ghost shrimp or black worms? are they like datnoids and alot of other fish that they need a few days to adjust? the ray's color is good, the underbelly is white, (the substrate is pea gravel, and it's pretty small) and the water chemistry is very good. the tankmates are not bothering the ray at all but I do have some skittish pictus cats that dont come out until night time. other than that, everything about this little guy has improved except appetite. even the breathing is looking 100% better.

he looks a little thin. im not so sure the rays at my lfs are eating either. when I asked one of the workers they didnt seem so sure they knew what they were eating. i'll try to feed them again tonight.

The only advice i can give you is NEVER buy a stingray from a lfs without watching it eat first. Just keep trying to feed him chopped up worms or blackworms and if the light isn't turned out i would turn it out to relieve any stress. Keep trying!

new plan, i got rid of all of my "active" fish and replaced half the tank's laterite with eco-complete sand. the tank is filtering out and the ray will go in there. i dont want to tell you how much money im spending to keep this baby happy.
