Yeah, they're leucistic. So are gold severums I'd say. Albino oscars are albino, they have red eyes. Lutino I thought was just a common name, for oscars etc. like my old albino that have some black on them (black fins in the case of lutino oscars).

"albino" oscars are not truley albino, they have red stripes and sometimes a reddish shade. red eyes are exhibited in leucistic fish as well.

That's actually a very good question. Let me throw it out to some folks and see what I can come back with.

The hobby pink convict, like the "convict" that's been in the hobby forever, is most likely a hybrid of one or more Amatitlania species. There is no way to tell otherwise.

There is a leucistic Honduran Red Point that (like the regular color "Honduran Red Point"s from Rio Danli and Rio Monga), I believe, does not fall into any of the four described Amatitlania species.

Here are a couple pics of my leucistic HRP's (that's what they were sold to me as). They have some really nice blues and reds in their fins. The female does not have the classic orange that you see on pink cons, which leads me to believe that they are different from the pink cons in the hobby.

Jonclark, those are incredible cons!

Most people should just lay off the monster Midas and be satisfied with a pair of cons like that in a 30 gallon tank. Pretty much the same look, behavior, and interactiveness without the trouble.

Where'd you get those?

I picked them up about a year ago from a LFS in Frederick, MD. I moved them from my 180G about 2 weeks ago and they spawned within a few days in their own tank. The fry became free swimming yesterday. You can see them (the little specs below the male in the 2nd pic).

Albinism is a lack of melanin, which means no dark colours, i.e.brown and black, and pink eyes. 'Albino' Oscars, with red/pink/yellow/orange but no brown or black, are albinos.
Leucism is a lack of melanin in the body, but the eyes are normal. Pink Convicts are leucistic.
Xanthism is an excess of yellow. The term 'lutino' refers to xanthic birds.
Erythrism is an excess of red.
Melanism is an excess of brown/black.
