technical term for pink convict???

It's all good, I doubt that the Queen will mind a little MFK humour/humor. :)

Matt, while I agree with you about man always trying to influence the 'beauty' of a fish from their perspective, it's not like a whole lot has changed from the early convicts in the hobby, to the same bread & butter variety that we see today. No doubt since the influx of HRP's years back there has been some man-made tinkering taking place here & there, some perhaps even by accident, but for the most part I would think that due to the low profit margin on farm raised convicts most established farmers would simply be keeping on with the same lines as 50 years ago. That or we would be seeing the same type of hybrids as we see in African cichlids. Glow in the dark OB convicts, FireCons, that sort of thing. Maybe that market exists, but if it does I haven't seen it.

The current pink convict can be anything....

True enough I suppose, but couldn't we say the same thing about most cichlids in the hobby, seeing as most of the species currently found at ones LFS have also now been bred, and many imported by larger commercial farms such as Segrest, from stock out of SE Asia?

In this case I'm starting to think more along the lines of what Dr. Loiselle stated in his email to Mo a few yrs back. If there's no financial gain to be gleaned, most commercial farms are not going to be bothered. Now a glow in the dark hybrid FireCon I could see.

Haven't you noticed in the last 10 years the lfs convict has gotten bluer? Breeding the same strain for 50 years? Doubtful, As for lfs store fish texas, red devils, trimacs, etc I wouldn't take them for free....those fish can and normally are a mystery as to what they are, hahaha

Not in my area, for the most part they look no different than they did when I was a kid, which is about 50 yrs ago. :)
