They eat a lot about 10#-15# of something daily. Silvercup Trout food, floating and sinking, Smelt, hot dogs, lettuce, assorted small creatures, birds, rats mice, and any fish, which can be swallowed whole. They have eaten most of my Cichlids.

Ammonia buildup is a problem, I have 200 gallons of bio balls in 5 55-gallon barrels and 13 cubic of beads in two filters, which is not a sufficient bio mass. I have ordered another 80 gallons of bio media from John at www.jehmco.com who is also specking out a new variable speed pump for my filter. The pump, called Intelliflo reportedly uses at least 30% less power than any standard pump doing the same work. My filter pump uses 19 AMPS at 120 Volts. If anyone has experience with the “intelligent” pumps I would like to have them reply here or start another thread and let me know where it is.
