In Asia, parents are a lot stricter on kids and put a lot more pressure on education.
Countries like Korea in Japan, the pressure to even pass college entrance exams in the most pretegious schools is so high that many students who don't get accepted commit suicide.
When I was growing up I'd get beaten with a leather belt everytime I get a bad test mark. Average about 5-8 lashes on the back, butt and leg area. It was almost a weekly thing for me.
