Okay so I've been searching around the net trying to find something that breaks the tie. Both of these animals I've been researching and re-researching trying to find something that will help my pick. I can't decide:(. Can you guys help? I wanna get a mid sized lizard that can be housed in a 6X3X3 or maybe slightly bigger cage and tames down well and from what I've read...The argentine black and white tegu and the savannah monitor fit these three pretty well. Does anyone have any experience with these two lizards? Any suggestions to which one would be best?

PS: I am a pretty experienced herp keeper AKA THIS IS NOT MY FIRST SECOND, THIRD, OR FOURTH REPTILE. I am well aware of basic husbandry needs for reptiles. I do know that both these animals can get very large and I realize that they are not leos in tameness and care. Just wnated to stait this so there was no confusion lol:).

Tegu. Unless you adopt a savvy, since there is so many in need.

Monitor.

I own a Savannah monitor, great pet, you can't go wrong if its a baby or an adult.

I have also owned a baby B&W tegu. That thing would always run away in my room. Not a good animal if you want to pick it up and show people.

Tegus, all the way. Captive-bred tegus are some of the tamest, friendliest animals I have ever met. Monitors are almost 100% wild caught and extremely nervous, although a genuine (and very rare) captive bred monitor can make a very interesting pet. Extremely fun to interact with, but far from cuddly.

Check out varnyard-herps.com for good tegu info, as well as agamainternational.com, the owner of which has recently died. Bert Langerwerf was basically the man who INVENTED tegus as we know them. They were very obscure pet lizards before he came along.

Anyway, good luck with your choice and keep us updated! :)

tegu. just in case you need convincing...[YT]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nz5mvOpCnvI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nz5mvOpCnvI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/YT]

Well It seems tegu wins by a landslide lol. And yes I've heard about varnyard and I have also visited many forums including thetegu.com and tegutalk.com. Well thanks for all your help guys I will be sure to show some pics when I get him but for now it's back to planning and preparing.

tegu for sure i miss my 5ft b&w

If a tegu gets 5 feet, how is it going too fit in a 6 foot cage?

Also that video is pretty cool. I however wouldn't keep that many together...
