Tegu or savannah monitor?

Question for monitor keepers: Ive been wandering if to get or not a monitor:confused: I would like a savy or perhaps a ornate nile (hands of:grinno:) but after all how bad is to be bitten by one of this guys? Ive been bitten all my live by a variety of reptiles, some pretty bad but would like a idea of the damage. Will it rip my skin pretty bad only or finger loss is into the equation? Will it get infected very bad? is it similar to being bitten by a iguana of similar size. This aint for now its long term possibility if Im going to insist on it at all:popcorn:

If a tegu gets 5 feet, how is it going too fit in a 6 foot cage?

Also that video is pretty cool. I however wouldn't keep that many together...

I think a 5ft black adn white tegu is pretty rare. Males top out at around 4ft with females being like 3ft are a little bigger.

Well, I have never been bitten by an adult monitor of any type. When Steve was younger, he bit me once because I was holding food in the hand. It is by no means a pleasent feeling but it wasn't that bad. Something like a Nile or Ornate monitor would be a different story though, atleast I think it would. As for an infection, just use hand sanitaizer on the over cut, that works.

Here are some pic's of my Steve.

nice setup and beautiful lizard. More people need to be that responsible with their pets.

Thanks. Let's just hope that LC can do the same for his.

What you can't see it the dual 100watt heat lamps that just happen to burn out yesterday. So I have a little mini heater heating up his cage.

Both are excelent animals. The argentine tegu (and make shure it is and not a columbian B&W) Is more easyer as far as care and diet (being omnivores). Savannas wich are carnivores are a little more difficult because of the risk of fatty liver disease. I find them more smellier then tegu's as well.

Good luck decideing

^He did decide.. Quite a while ago.. He recently posted updated pics of his tegu in the media lounge.
