Well the title says it all; Tell me about Designs by nature products...

I have seen the 3-D backgrounds and will say they look amazing. I recently e-mailed a question and got an answer very quickly, so I know that they care and have great customer service.

The main thing I'm trying to find out about right now is the quality of the products along with durability. I am actually interested in some of the large driftwood stump/root pieces. A good $300+ for what I'm looking at. So I dont want to have to purchase this stuff again, its a one time deal.

So tell me about your experiences with their products...

Your going to get nothing but thumbs up from me. On everything I have bought from them. Maybe we can ask the owner Matt (shyro77 here on MFK) to chime in with specific answers to your questions. I can only comment on what I have bought and would highly recommend them.

I did not get any stumps but I have a couple of the backgrounds. They are easy to work with and look great installed.

Unlike a lot of the AquaTerra reps Matt at Designs By Nature actually responds to sales inquiries.

Nothing but praise from me too. Matt has the best customer service and packaging in the industry IMO.

I have two of the three big stumps they sell, they're really nice products. I don't like the smaller wood pieces they sell though (the cheap ones). All their backgrounds are really nice as well.

I noticed on the site they say the stumps only weigh a few pounds and sink immediately, but being that they are so light, do you find that they need to be anchored down at all. My next tank will have a couple koralias moving a pretty good amount of water around the bottom...

Do you just bury them in the substrate or do you have them physically attached somehow?

Thats funny because I was going to get a few pieces of the smaller stuff to see if it were any good before I invested in the larger pieces.

What was it that you did not like about the small pieces?

What exactly do you like about the large stumps?

I have both as well. The large pieces do sink right away, have good designs and are easy to work with. The smaller pieces break easily and are made of a different material. I don't use the smaller pieces either.

One of my main concerns was fading. I had purchased one of the Petsmart pieces and is is totally faded out and looks ultra fake now after about a year. Also one of the parts just broke off when cleaning. The whole piece changed after it soaked; it became kind of squishy and brittle. And that stupid piece was $40.

This is the one: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752221&lmdn=Fish+Decor

Ive seen a lot of others who have this same one. The fish love it but it is junk.
