Tell me about Niger Catfish!

Ok, I've seen some small 3-5" Niger Catfish at my LFS, for £8 each. I know they get big, but they look awesome, and aside from the fact I will need a big tank for one as it grows, what kind of setup are we talking? Anyone got any pics of their setup? What should I feed one?

Thats a really good price, i think that they are slow growing.

They actually grow very fast. Mine has gone from 4" to 17" in ~10 months. They aren't very picky eaters. Try sinking catfish pellets, shrimp pellets etc. Good luck.

I had one for over 10 years. Great fish. I think he finally died out of boredom

I bought him at about 4" and when he died he was only about 15". He lived most of his life in a 125. He ate shrimp pellets only and never bothered another fish of any kind. Cant go wrong with one of these.

i've seen niger cats at over 30" long in a public aquarium and i know they get bigger than this in the wild,a very large tank or a pond would be the best bet and they like to live in groups but that's hardly possible with their size
