IDK with polys as truthfully I've never shipped them. bag buddies is more to prevent ammonia burn, and provide a little extra o2. The fish you buy at a lfs won't be "purged" like someone who was planning to ship a fish probably.
See when you ship a fish and know it's going out you don't feed it at least the day before, if it's a larger fish than maybe a couple days before. For that reason since the lfs probably feeds their fish daily I would think you want something extra in that water but maybe others will chime in on polys and shipping in general.
