Interesting about the sand. I haven't opened the bags yet, so I can trade them for sand. My reason for going with the pooka shells is because I've had sand before and after time, they collect methane pockets. I also want the shells to help with the pH. This may sound a little weird, but maybe I can create a little sand area separated by smaller rocks. Hmm--this could be fun. 
Yes, I bought from Dave's before. He's a great guy and will work with you if you need your fish to arrive on a certain day. He was also who I called to get advice for transporting all my Malawi's. Unfortunately, he said he really doesn't carry cyps because they don't ship well. He does have those neon paracyps.
