I have an AC 50. It was super silent and great at first, but now it has gotten loud. I can barely stand to use it. What is your expierence with them? Do you think they are good or bad? Also, my intake tube is easy to move and jiggles around in the filter box. Is this normal because it wasn't like this when I first got it. Is this causing the noise problem?

The intake tube sounds like you problem. You should be able to get a new one very cheap.

I have had nothing but good experiences with all of my AC's. The only one that I have had a problem with is my fault. I ended up getting some sand in it and it has slowly wore down the motor to where it makes noise. I have since replaced it with a new one until I get a new motor. Every one of my tanks has at least one AC on it and none of them make any noises.

I also have an AC50 and its quiet, even when i sleep near my tank. You should take out the old tube and replace it and clean the impeller

I agree. I currnetly have five AC's, not a single problem.

None of my AC filters give me any problems either. If the flow rate slows take it apart and clean it. It's so easy to remove the motor and filter that there is no reason to let it gunk up.

the only problems I've had with my AC's are:
a fixable crack from dropping one
noise from a loose lid
water pressure pushing the foam and inside plastic case up from being too dirty
noise from the intake tube being tight against the plastic of the aquarium.

other than that, I haven't had any problems with them. they are easy to fix, clean, and easy to find parts for. also, most fish stores carry the filters.
probably the ultimate HOB filter.

Had a 10g at work that I was running with an AC. Worked great!
