So, I am picking up a 29g biocube this weekend and it has a Fluval 304 for filtration along with a protein skinner. I have a few questions about the Fluval filters as I have only used Eheim.
-Do Fluvals leak?? I've heard they do and I have heard they don't. What's your experience?

-Are Fluvals any good? I mean they are a big brand name, but will it suffice for saltwater? I will also be using the regular biocube filter along with the fluval and the skimmer.

Anything else that comes to mind, let me know!

I hate the fluval 304 since I almost got kicked out of my apartment because it leaked all over the place on several different occasions.
My fluval 204 was fine. My fluval 404 was fine, but because of my fluval 304, I just got rid of all my fluval products.
I only used it for freshwater, so I can't help with salt, but I really don't like the 304s. I would spend the extra cash and get an xp3 or marineland canister or eheim.

That is just my 2 cents, I am sure there are others that love the 304. Who knows, maybe I had a defective one.

I would throw some more cash into it, but it comes with the tank so Im getting it for sure :( what leaked? was it the hoses or the O-ring around the top of the canister?

The lady also says it doesnt leak and I will probably be housing it in a bucket at first to make sure it doesnt leak. I have had leaky filters too and its not fun

you may have to get a O-ring seal after cleaning, aside that its solid, the propellers break here and there, but don't touch them unless you have too. Overal I give the fluval product a 7 out of 10. The Fluval does not compare to your eheim, the eheim is much smoother in operation and is more solid in build and priming is much easier!

they are decent product, because you are buying use, eventually the seal will need to be replace. If you are buying new, I wouldn't recommend buying the lower series of Fluval canisters. Their heaters are worthless, the M series. BTW.

Ive never had any problems with Fluval canisters. Ive used 405's and 305's for years, and never had any problems. It is important to maintain the rubber gasket that goes around the lid of the filter. Keep it lubricated and take care not to pinch it when you put the lid back on.

Thx for all the input keep it coming!!!!!

Sounds good enough to me, I mean if it were up to me I would pick up something else that I know and trust but eehh its coming with it so why not give the little guy a shot

Any time you have water out of the aquarium for the purposes of filtration, there is a chance that something is going to leak. Generally I have heard good things about fluval
Sounds great! I had about 30g dump out of my freshwater due to a blown seal...was quite messy:nilly:

Would you use something like vasaline to keep it lubricated?

Sounds like it depends on how well she has taken care of it and all that along with if I just get a defective piece of equipment. I heard the hoses have a tendency to leak quite easily? Inputs?

Personally I wouldn't as oil breaks down rubbers. Some Silicone-based grease might be a good idea

Good point, I think I have some in the garage...
