Tell Me Your Fluval Experiences

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I believe it was the o ring on mine. Now I have heard great things about the 305 and 405 from a few users, but the 304 was the one I heard the worst about, but it came with it, so I used it. I would have it in the bucket for awhile just in case:)

Just search fluval 304 leaking in google and you will find lots.

Mine was also terrible to prime compared to my other fluvals and other canisters. So I am pretty sure I got a defective one since like I said before, my fluval 204 was fine, no leaks and easy priming. As for care, I only had them a few months and both of those fluvals came from the same person so I am assuming he treated them the same way haha

Thx for all the input keep it coming!!!!!

Sounds good enough to me, I mean if it were up to me I would pick up something else that I know and trust but eehh its coming with it so why not give the little guy a shot

Sounds great! I had about 30g dump out of my freshwater due to a blown seal...was quite messy:nilly:

Would you use something like vasaline to keep it lubricated?

Sounds like it depends on how well she has taken care of it and all that along with if I just get a defective piece of equipment. I heard the hoses have a tendency to leak quite easily? Inputs?

Yes vaseline is a good lubricant for that o-ring. Personally never had any issue with hoses leaking either.

I love my FX5, and that's the only input I can put on fluvial canisters from personal experience. I've heard the newer smaller canisters have improved on quality, but no experience first hand.

i've used fluval canister filters exclusively. i've never used an eheim, or a jebo or a rena filter ever. i've NEVER had one leak. i did have one come out of the thing that holds it over the edge of the tank and spray all of the water onto the floor rather than back in the tank.. but that was user error.. not a fluval problem.

on tanks smaller than 100 gallons i use foam filters on air pumps or powerheads. on 100 and over i use fluval 404s or 405s with foam filters. and on anything over 150 i use fluval FX5's with foam filters.
