ok so ive decided to start an EBJD breeding project and if im unable to find a female jack carrying the blue gene i will have to do it the hard way and breed an EBJD with a Regular, then i get a blue gene jack that i can trade. but how do i tell what ones are normal and what one are blue gene as there fry? i know there is no psychical difference between the two, but how do i know what ones have the blue gene?

If you're going to start a breeding project it's necessary to have a basic understanding of Mendelian genetics.

If you cross a EBJD with a nomal Jack 100% off the offspring will be heterozygous (carrying the recessive trait, also shown as Aa). Also called blue-gene jack dempsey.

The only time you'd get a mix of regular and blue-gene would be if you crossed two blue-gene jacks (Aa X Aa). Then you'd end up with 25% AA (normal), 50% Aa (blue-gene) and 25% aa (EBJD).

If you're just buying a "blue-gene" jack there is nothing to go off of except the sellers word.

ahhhh i get this now thank you. no need for anymore replys

I couldn't tell you the sex of those three fish, but I can tell you that you have only a 12.5% chance of one of those fish not being female.

I didn't see a lot of blue on the gill plates of those fish, so I would say all male. Also, how would you know if they are really blue gene or not? I'd just breed them myself and be sure that I actually really do have blue gene fish.

dang it.... well all right then.. not paying 100 dollars for the other trio
