temp question.

so i went against the rules, i had to place my tank in front of a window. now the weather is starting to break here my mom opens all the windows to keep the house at a nice temp. well my tank gets to 84 at night and in the morning its down to 80. is this swing to much for the fish to handle, or is it ok.
 
should be fine wish can handle rapid changes in temp surprisingly well its a chance in parameters that gets them .
 
Mine handle similar fluctuations from time to time, they are fine.
 
4 degrees is not huge temperture swing in 24 hours. What are you keeping in the tank?
 
my new tank HAS to go in front of the window. There just is no other place to put it. what i do not understand is how your tank can raise temp. at night and drop during the day? I'm taking it has something to do with your mom opening the windows right? either way that little of a temp. change should be allright. I wonder what the water temp. change is when u transport a new fish home (my drive is usually an hour) it has to be more then 4 degrees on a hot or cold day.
 
one of my heaters decided to go bonkers on me overnight... it was 88 this morning... i had some very unhappy looking corys this morning (10g hospital tank.. had my first run in with popeye.. everyone is doing good and recovering just fine)
thankfully it was the first "warm" day for socal this year.. its 10pm and still 81 in my house.. i floated a few ice cubes and took the top off.. they have perked up a bit as the day has gone by.. now they are enjoying some wafers.. tomorrow they get a new heater and i guess its time i get their fan constructed...

so anyway.. i wouldnt worry about 4 degrees too much over 12-24 hours
 
try this, it might help- put a foam sheet behind your tank, so that the light hits the foam instead of your tank, it should help soak up the suns heat instead of heating your tank.
