Temp too high and it wont go down.

Thanx for all the advice guys. Ill give them a try. I have the heater completely off and the air was on all day so now its at 81. BTW what is too hot for cichlids?

78-82 is pretty much perfect temp. If temp gets too high, and there is not enough oxygen in the water it can cause the fish to suffocate. so just be aware of that. depending on what kind of equipment you are using, that can also heat up your water.
glad to see it is going down though. gl.

84 is fine cichlids. Not to worry. Keep good aeration and water parameters and all should be fine. When the temp gets above 86 for long periods of time, then I would look into better cooling methods.

need more info: tank size, type of cichlids, fiteration, lighting, room temp, is sun light hitting the tank? My 220 with a sump runs 84 in the summer and 80 in the winter. The pump keeps it at that temp. When I ran two pumps the temp would hit 86 in the summer.

Last week was HOT on the east coast, at least where I am. The temp being ok depends on the fish. Most central and south amercian cichlids are fine with that, though some Thorichthys do not do well over 78. Frontosa don't really like temps that high either. So, it depends on which cichlids you have.
