i also would like to know what size aquarium they would need, food they eat, and at what size they start to breed

I am still new to the largish fish game - but I do not feed live fish for a couple of reasons -

first and foremost is that I keep other, smaller non-predatory fish with my oscar. The agression factor is important to try and control. That means that the oscar has less of a chance to hurt himself as well as the other animals. If tank size and tank mates were not a limitation - then I would investigate home-bred feeder options. Just sounds healthier with less risk.

Second - have you ever seen the feeders at a pet shop? Nasty things and I would not choose to put one in my tank. I work hard to keep my tanks as clean and disease free as I can (except for ich a couple of times but hey not everybody is perfect - at least there were no losses to the ich)

Third - Economics. Keeping overfeeding in mind as an issue, some good cichlid food is probably better formulated and cheaper in the long run than having to keep buying feeders. In your case though since they come from your friends shop - not saying I know anything about your friend that runs the shop - but tackle-shop-keeper minnows are probably in worse shape than the goldfish at the fish store...
anyway, good luck getting a larger tank for that thing - wow. :WHOA:Nice fish.

Another 78-80F here....

Burt:)

Oh yeah it was about temperature....I keep mine at 79F. Helps prevent ich, promotes good bacteria growth, and when summer comes the fish are already used to the warmer temps that come with the season.
