pH is best around 6-7 and 88 for young/juveniles and you can later lower that to 82 as they become sub-adults/adults.
 
I don't think pH matters as long as it's stable. For small cichla (4" and less) I go with 86-88*; then up to 7" 82-84*; everything bigger is in 80* water. That's just what I keep mine in.

My pH is around 8.2-8.4 out the tap. I haven't measured it lately.

ph: whatever comes out of tap, keep it constant
temp: 85+ for little guys, when they get bigger, same as any other tropical fish
