It's been pretty warm lately where I'm at, and my aquarium temp has slowly risen to 84-86 in the past week. What I have stocked are standard cichlids (oscar, JD, GT, Texas, cons), 4 clown loaches, BN catfish. During normal temp conditions I will raise temp this high for treatment purposes only.

I don't want to invest in a chiller as cooler weather is just ahead. From experience, would you say the fish would be adversely affected at this temp range for another week or two? I hope they don't start breeding...

i moved this thread because i think you will get more information and answers here...

use coke bottles....fill the coke bottle/bottles with water, put them in the freezer....then put them in your tank.

I keep my tanks that high to prevent parasites. If it goes higher than 86, use the coke bottle method.

84-86 degrees Fahrenheit isn't that high enough to harm those fish you have. They are pretty tolerant to it. Just try to increase surface agitation to maintain oxygen levels.
