What is the acceptable Temerapture range for a blue Spotted Sunfish (black banded and banded as well)? Is 22 or 23 degrees C the max?

E. gloriosus: 10-22C
E. Chaetodon 4-22C
E. Obesus 10-22C

All that according to fishbase.org, I can tell you though that my bluespotted have experienced temperatures in the upper 70's without a problem.

So the upper 70s hasn't been detrimental to them? Cause I would like to keep some but need the temp to be mid to high 70s

Not in my case, I have four of them and in the summer the temp in the house has reached 80F, tank water between 75-78F and they've done fine. All three species have populations as far south as Florida so they should be pretty warm water tolerant.

Yah I saw that most had populations down into florida and was wondering why 22 was the max. Thanks for the advice and info.

I catch them in water that in the summer can be in the high 80's easy. They will do well in water as tropical as any fish from the Amazon. They do need a winter cool down to breed. I usually allow mine to cool down to the low 60's for a couple of weeks if I want them to breed.

so they only need the water cooled down if you want them to breed? or is this something that needs to happen every winter for them to be comforatable?

by way of a question, do you think it would be a good idea, that during these times of high temp ranges, if possible one should inject more oxygen into the water, either with air stone, or small powerhead with venturi air injection ??

It wouldn't hurt, especially if you have a heavily stocked tank or little surface agitation. Personally I don't use anything for that other than my HOB filters.
