Temperature Range

Anywhere between 23-27 would be my preference, I have my GTs at 23 with no ill effects.

I think 26-27 would be better. 29 might be a little on the high side for them. Warm water increases their overall metabolisum and increases agression. Short trem it wouln't hurt them but a lower temp long term would be a better option IMO.

That's a good temp for discus, haitiensus and Alcopia, but not needed for a convict, and especially the Texas. That range is a breeding paradise for columnaris bacteria, which is deadly to fish. You could easily hold a temp of 22 for those fish, even lower.
I keep carpintus, a very close cousin to your Texas even lower
