Tempered Glass tank.

Hi,

I'm planning to have a tank built, got a quote from an aquarium manufacturer. but the quote given was for tempered glass. Would tempred glass be stronger? or will it be more prone to accidents?
the manufacturer gave me a quote using tempered glass. but the price was really good. Is tempered glass more expensive than normal glass?
Would it work if 1 side back front and buttom is in tempered glass and 1 side is in ordinary glass? Since i want to be able to drill 1 side for overflow .

or will it really be bad to use tempered for tanks?

Tempered is typically more expensive. As far as building a tank, it really doesn't matter which one you use or any combination there of. You should be fine to use whatever you like.

It takes quite a bit of force to bust a tempered panel. Most people prefer plate because of tempered glass' tendency to shatter instead of crack.

Don't you mean the other way around as tempered glass is the one that shatters into a million small pieces and plate glass is the one that cracks and breaks into large pieces.

Fixed. Thinking and typing are two completely different things.

thanks, Will order the tempered glass then, only 1 side panel will use plate so i can put an overflow

Keep in mind that tempered glass is very fragile on its edges. It takes very little force against the edge to shatter it. That may be something to think about with exposed corners of a tank in a room.

if you have seen a large tank with regular glass break, then you would prefer tempered glass. Imagine large sword like pieces of glass being pushed by 200 gallons of water going straight for you. Tanks are likely to break when your near.

Tempered glass is used on cars windshield to prevent the sword like glass from killing you.

Tempered glass is stronger than regular glass.

You can use thinner glass when using tempered glass
