Temporary kiddie pool

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I always overwintered my pond fish in kiddy pools (Oct thru April), I have use Intex (400 gal), and Bestway (@ 1000gal).
Both have worked well. Filter media in bags in line with the flow from a pump or powerhead has also worked well, along with rocks, logs and other stuff from the ponds, that would obviously contain beneficial biofilm.

I currently have fish in an 8' x 18" kiddi pool in my basement. I've had no issues with it and it's been up and running for at least 18 months. It was never meant to be used for so long, but I recommend it for a cheap temporary option. You can always use netting to cover it if you are worried about jumping. I've never had a fish jump out of mine and mine isn't covered.

Just be careful if you have kids or pets that will have access to it.

If the pond is large enough you maybe able to keep the water level low enough to minimize jumping but some kind of netting would be safest. The fish seem to enjoy the wide foot print of some of the kiddie pools

has anyone here keep stingray in kiddie pools?
To me, that seems alot more sketchy; just because of the chance of puncturing the liner. I do think I remember an image posted online of a FW stingray breeding facility that consisted of a wherehouse packed full of intex pools somewhere in Asia.
