Temporary Stocking Help Needed - T. argenteus / PTC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you. Unfortunately all of those fish are either passed or rehomed now. I had a nasty oodinia outbreak in my tank a few months back. But interestingly enough, the only fish that were able to recover were two of the argenteus. They are very hardy fish!

Sorry for your loss that sucks.. After reading this, it reminded me of the one time I lost my favorite display tank by adding a school of WC Arowana Tetra “Gnathocharax steindachneri”.. After that happened I swore off mixing WC and CB / TR unless additions were QT'd.. So last night after a 70% WC I took tlindsey tlindsey advice and set up a QT 40B under my 75G rack. Hopefully no damage was done to the 75G stock.. Wasn't hard since I double filter ((2) AC 110s) each of my (4) 75G tanks... just swapped one over to the QT filled it up, let it run over night , tested the parameters and added the new fish...

Thanks all for the feedback, I love this place!

A closer look at them would be needed for a positive id, but judging by the high anterior profile, the large black spot on the caudal peduncle, and the little red on the anal fins, they do look like T. argenteus. But bthe picture does not quite show them. Do show them in all their glory, please!
I too believe one of the best combinations you could do is the Tetragonopterus + the Colombian tetras, together with the shoal of Brochis, and little or none else. That would be an awesome tank!!!

I planned to put them in my 240G w/ a shoal of 6 - 8 juvie GTs, 2 Green Phantoms, a school of Brochi multiradiatus (and / or maybe 4 Pimelodus ornatus) 1 PTC and a nice size school of Colombian tetra.. Do you think this would work or should I make the T. Argenteus the centerpiece of a 75G along w/ the trio of Blue Acara..?

Always open to opinions...

Very nice, thanks! those are beautiful. I would say T. argenteus for sure, look young. Nice group. They will look great in any big tank and will be assertive as a group. I don't have direct experience with GTs, phantoms or Pimelodus so I can't say. Lucky you!

Thanks, glad I pulled the trigger... wanted something larger than avg tetras but not SD.. read a ton of posts on different characins in here including yours and Backfromthedead Backfromthedead before buying so thanks for sharing your experiences... was close to pulling the trigger on some Pink Spot Choco Tetra "Pseudochalceus kyburzi", but held off, for now... Also considered a group of hemiodus, but only saw the gracilis and thought they'd be too slender and timid for a GT tank...

p.s. not sure I'm going to add the Pims due to bioload concerns.. if I do they'll likely be last, and mainly to keep fry numbers down and a different type of activity in the tank...
