Ten Gallon Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
these are some great ideas, I've never really considered catfish as anything other than cleaner fish for some reason, but I know there are tons of fishkeepers out there who love their cats. I'm doing some research into the spatula barbel catfish now, but I'm not finding too much. From your description colefishing, it sounds like a great ten gallon fish though.
Those skunk loaches sound interesting as well, I'm gonna have to do some research to see how they would do in a ten gallon.
For some reason cichlid's have never really appealed to me all that much, however a german ram does sound like a nice fit, and I'm fairly sure the petstore near me sells them.
Crawdad's might be a fun, I actually just saw a ton of them on the last backpacking trip I took.

A Silver Arowana is probably your best bet.

Haha just kidding. Why don't you try a group of badis badis on white sand?
Or maybe a group of hillstream loaches on black sand?
Sounds nice to me :)

I have an electric blue crayfish and it's got good personality, always coming up to the glass and challenging me, waving its claws etx, never in hiding. I have a few skunk loaches and I don't think they Would do well in a 10g, they are super active and even aggressive to their own kind and other smaller fish. They need to be in groups of 5+, and can grow to 4" so I would say no to the 10g

ah, didn't realize they needed to be in groups, that would be a problem.
Colefishing: I've been searching around the web, but I'm not sure if those spatula barbel catfish need to be in groups or not. Planet catfish has a few posts on them, and most people are keeping them in groups of 4+. Not sure if they're ok to be kept alone or not

Yeah planet catfish is the only website I can find info on. They have the same care as any small cat. I think they are like pictus were they can be kept as a single or in groups. I've heard success in both occasions. If i were you I might to two. Throw some rocks around some driftwood and you would have a great setup. Id feed bloodworms, catfish pellets(Hikari or nls), and small cut meats with the occasional treat of ghost shrimp and minnows.
