I don't know that much about plants but won't the plant sufficate itself??

I will post pics as it progresses. Pi-Eyed, yes it would if it were not for the water surface to exchange gases; ie, trade the plant waste of oxygen for fish waste of CO2. So that may very well be the limiting factor but I have a hunch it will work fine.
